Information collected on CARFAX web site and use of the information
CARFAX collects and stores information including any personal information that you may provide in connection with your CARFAX subscription. The information CARFAX collects includes, without limitation, your name and contact information (such as, telephone number, fax number, email address, mailing address) for your agency, information regarding services provided to your agency, information regarding service providers for your agency, and/or any other information that you may provide in connection with your subscription. This information is used to process and respond to your inquiry, improve our products, and the CARFAX web site, inform you about CARFAX products and services through promotional activities and to provide services to you. You may also provide to CARFAX the Accident Data (as defined in the Police Crash Assistance Program Terms and Conditions) created, collected or maintained by your agency through the CARFAX web site.
In order to search the accident report database, CARFAX may require that you enter certain search criteria, such as city and state where the accident took place, the last name of an involved party, the date or the accident and/or the report number. For each Investigative Tool you request, you are asked to enter the vehicle identification number or license plate and license state, which is used to search our database for information about the vehicle’s history. CARFAX may keep a record of your usage of the Investigative Tools and/or accident reports and the search parameters used to access CARFAX information.
The CARFAX web site may contain web beacons to collect data regarding user traffic patterns. We may include web beacons in some of our email communications to determine whether our communications are opened and whether action was taken based on links in those communications in order to gauge the effectiveness of our customer communications and marketing campaigns.
We use information collected through cookies and web beacons to analyze usage, learn about users and deliver customized content and advertising and uncover ways in which we can improve CARFAX web sites. Information provided by visitors to the CARFAX web sites who choose to complete user surveys helps us better understand how visitors are using CARFAX web sites and products and services, and develop better products and services for you.
CARFAX may use your account information to understand your usage across devices to help enhance your user experience and for other purposes.
We use the Accident Data provided by you in accordance with the terms of the CARFAX Police Crash Assistance Program Terms and Conditions.
Protection of the Information
While no data security system is perfect, we use commercially reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards against unauthorized access, use, modification, disclosure and destruction of the information CARFAX collects.
Disclosure of the information to unaffiliated third parties
CARFAX may share or disclose information it collects through the CARFAX web site with unaffiliated third parties: (i) as provided in this Privacy Statement or otherwise disclosed by CARFAX, (ii) to defend against legal claims or otherwise protect our rights, (iii) as required by law, judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on CARFAX, (iv) for purposes of law enforcement investigations, and/or (v) with your consent. CARFAX may share with other law enforcement agencies information regarding your use of Investigative Tools, such as VIN Alerts, if CARFAX determines, in its sole discretion, that such sharing of information enhances the utility of such Investigative Tools. If you elect not to share information with other law enforcement agencies, you may adjust your account settings to be deemed a “private agency”. CARFAX may share with third parties, including but not limited to, other users and vendors any content or materials you submit through public posting on the CARFAX web site.
We may share non-personal, anonymous, statistical or demographic information in aggregate form with our advertisers, service providers or other third parties. We may also disclose information collected through cookies and web beacons to our affiliates or to third parties, who may aggregate such online activity information across multiple web sites and may use such information for marketing, cross device linking or other purposes.
CARFAX uses third party service providers to perform various functions such as processing the police report information provided by you, analyzing data, serving advertisements and providing marketing assistance.

Your access to such third party web sites is subject to the privacy policies and practices of those third party web sites and we encourage you to review the privacy statements of such third party websites. CARFAX does not control the collection, use or disclosure of any information on such third party links and is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any third party web sites.
How to access, update or change the information
You may access, update or change the information pertaining to your account by contacting your CARFAX account manager.
To opt out of receiving targeted content and advertisements on the CARFAX web site you can change your browser options to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from any web site. You will be able to access and use the CARFAX web site with cookies disabled, but the user experience may not be customized to your interests and needs.
