Information collected on CARFAX web site and use of the information

CARFAX collects and stores information including any personal information that you may provide in connection with your CARFAX subscription. The information CARFAX collects includes, without limitation, your name and contact information (such as, telephone number, fax number, email address, mailing address) for your agency, information regarding services provided to your agency, information regarding service providers for your agency, and/or any other information that you may provide in connection with your subscription. This information is used to process and respond to your inquiry, improve our products, and the CARFAX web site, inform you about CARFAX products and services through promotional activities and to provide services to you. You may also provide to CARFAX the Accident Data (as defined in the Police Crash Assistance Program Terms and Conditions) created, collected or maintained by your agency through the CARFAX web site.

In order to search the accident report database, CARFAX may require that you enter certain search criteria, such as city and state where the accident took place, the last name of an involved party, the date or the accident and/or the report number. For each Investigative Tool you request, you are asked to enter the vehicle identification number or license plate and license state, which is used to search our database for information about the vehicle’s history. CARFAX may keep a record of your usage of the Investigative Tools and/or accident reports and the search parameters used to access CARFAX information.

The CARFAX web site may contain web beacons to collect data regarding user traffic patterns. We may include web beacons in some of our email communications to determine whether our communications are opened and whether action was taken based on links in those communications in order to gauge the effectiveness of our customer communications and marketing campaigns.

CARFAX may collect, or have a third party collect on its behalf, information regarding the browser being used, hardware and software being used, data on the number of visits, paths taken, time spent on CARFAX web site, and how visitors use and navigate through the CARFAX web site. CARFAX may share with third parties, including but not limited to, other users and vendors any content or materials you submit through public posting on the CARFAX web site.

We may share non-personal, anonymous, statistical or demographic information in aggregate form with our advertisers, service providers or other third parties. We may also disclose information collected through cookies and web beacons to our affiliates or to third parties, who may aggregate such online activity information across multiple web sites and may use such information for marketing, cross device linking or other purposes.

CARFAX uses third party service providers to perform various functions such as processing the police report information provided by you, analyzing data, serving advertisements and providing marketing assistance.
